Chicken and dumplings

So now that I have a legit kitchen, money for food and people who want me to cook for them, my life feels much better. One of my favorite parts of the first few months of sophomore year of college was when I used to be able to cook for Susan, Alison, Lacey, and Dan. When everyone decided they wanted to go out to eat every day I gained a lot of weight and I also felt like I would lose my ability to cook.

Now, as I said, Charles likes my cooking. He likes having some homemade meal on the burner as soon as he gets home; he appreciates that I have a deep distaste for pre-made mixes, cookies, treats, etc.; he also loves to be surprised by his favorite meals. It's wonderful to make something delicious and it's wonderful to feel like someone else appreciates it.

Today? Today we're making chicken and dumplings in the slow cooker, my crock pot. Charles has never had chicken and dumplings. I simply have only had it in restaurants. I'm terrified of how it's going to turn out. Here's the recipe:

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Slow-Cooker-Chicken-and-Dumplings/Detail.aspx?prop31=

* 4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
* 2 tablespoons butter
* 2 (10.75 ounce) cans condensed cream of chicken soup
* 1 onion, finely diced
* 2 (10 ounce) packages refrigerated biscuit dough, torn into pieces

DIRECTIONS

1. Place the chicken, butter, soup, and onion in a slow cooker, and fill with enough water to cover.
2. Cover, and cook for 5 to 6 hours on High. About 30 minutes before serving, place the torn biscuit dough in the slow cooker. Cook until the dough is no longer raw in the center.

Easy, peasy, but that onion... I hate onion. It's one of my least favorite vegetables. When I cut up onions, I don't cry but I do smell like it for days and days. I try all of those tricks... rubbing stainless steel spoons all over my fingers just to get that smell out of my hands. Raw onion is a smell that almost makes me want to throw up.

The kitchen reeks of it. I'm hoping this ends up okay.
